Emu captured in charcoal and pastel. Just loving the eye looking straight at you. We have wild emus that travel and raise their young over our unfenced 100 acres of dry sclerophyll native bushland. Usually to fast and elusive for me to capture the photo. 

Dhinawan translates as emu in the local Gamilaraay language of lands where we live.

The source image of this female brushtail possum was photographed while in the care of Sue Brookhouse OAM. The possum was released soon after this photo was taken. Sue received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2023, recognising her outstanding contribution in caring for Australian wildlife for over 35 years.

I photographed these proud sunflower blooms growing in my garden one late summers afternoon as the sun was setting. I loved the play of light of the sun setting through the trees, casting shadows and light from the petals and leaves.

Subject: Ape’s hand resting on rope. Whilst drawing this hand I could see the many lines that mark this being’s life. The way it moves, the scars, the folds and wear. Resting on a rope the owner of this hand doesn’t have freedom but the pose looks relaxed and holds wisdom from a life lived. What do you see?
